What Happens During Laser Resurfacing?
Fraxel pioneered fractional laser resurfacing, which penetrates the skin in a pattern of pinpoint channels of light rather than a solid beam. Before the development of fractional technology, laser resurfacing used broad-brush treatments that damaged healthy tissue surrounding the targeted areas.
Traditionally, 2 kinds of laser treatment have been available for cosmetic skin treatment: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers are more aggressive, treating deeper layers of the skin. Ablative lasers are one of the most effective ways to improve your skin if you have significant acne scarring or more severe signs of sun damage. The tradeoff is most patients require up to 2 weeks of recovery time.
Less aggressive non-ablative lasers penetrate into your skin to stimulate growth of collagen while leaving surrounding tissue intact. No skin is actually removed during the treatment and there are very few side effects and minimal downtime. Several treatments are typically required, however, to obtain the desired results.
Our Fraxel Lasers
The 2 non-ablative Fraxel lasers we use are:
- Fraxel re:store® – We use this laser to stimulate collagen growth, improving your skin’s tone and texture while reducing the appearance of fine lines.
- Fraxel DUAL® – An advancement in laser technology, the Fraxel DUAL uses 2 wavelengths to perform double-duty. It adds a laser targeting pigmentation and pre-cancerous spots on your skin, while simultaneously improving the tone and appearance of your skin.
